Cockburn’s is one of the classic Port Houses. It was established in 1815 by Robert Cockburn, who first came to Portugal to fight in the Peninsular campaigns under Wellington. When he returned to Oporto after the campaigns, he was inspired to create his own Port firm.

In 2010, Symington Family Estates brought Cockburn's back under family management after five decades of corporate ownership with a renewed focus on brand reputation and quality.
