Blandy’s MCDXIX Winemakers Selection

A milestone as historic and unique as the celebration of the 600 years since the discovery of Madeira could only be marked by an exclusive and rare Madeira wine, the result of a blend of 11 exceptional wines from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, traditionally aged and made from the five historical white grape varieties of Madeira – Sercial, Verdelho, Terrantez, Bual and Malmsey.

The Winemaker’s Selection is a special edition limited to 600 numbered magnums, in honor to and recognition of the bravery and audacity shown by the Portuguese navigators that once set sail for the unknown.

The NV MCDXIX Winemaker Selection has 22% alcohol, denoting concentration by evaporation and age, a pH of 3.48 and 95 grams of unfermented sugar per liter of wine. It has wines from 11 vintages, the oldest from 1862 (Boal) and the youngest from 1988 (Terrantez). It has a dark and bright mahogany color, and it has concentration, acidity, richness and intensity, all in a single wine. This is an exercise for a master blender that epitomizes Madeira wine in a single bottle. It's old and complex but energetic and elegant, with volatility and length. It has terrific balance. The wine IS TERRIFIC! -L.G.
